What I learned from Week 2

This week I learned of one great idea of how to "prep" teachers for the incoming class.  Instead of just looking at the test scores and having some brief conversations about the kids coming into your class, we might try having an actual meeting with the teachers who had the students all year.  We could discuss what types of learning styles the students possess, and the issues the students are facing at home.  By figuring out what we have tried with the students, and having a greater insight into problems that our students are going through, we are more likely to actually improve our students education.

  1. Scott,
I think you have an excellent point. A few years ago we started meeting with the previous teachers to gain insight right after the class lists were released. As a 5th grade teacher, I was able to learn all about the progress each student made in 4th grade, form my small groups accordingly, and essentially hit the ground running to pick up where they had left off the year before. Our scores soared that year as well so we continued this at the beginning of every year thereafter.
I look forward to following your blog and especially learning more about your research with technology integration.
